My Grandmother upper left

Vinnie Alice Webb Dalton Ayers
Born in Wyoming Co.,West Virginia 1905.
Passed away March 10,1992

My grandmother was strict but kind and helped me develop my imagination. While washing the dishes, she'd call me over to see the ships in the bay made out of soap bubbles which was really her kitchen sink in the soap bubbles or the dog. Now where do you think they might be going. She'd point out shapes in the clouds. I will hope to add a few of her stories later on. Then there were times when she'd give me old curtains to play with and I'd dress up and make-believe I wore gowns and veils. Oh yes, these were good old days and I reflect upon them with a sense of thankfulness. Those were in truth the best days of my life.
Grandmom was part American Indian to read about her ggg grandfather George Webb click the link below.

I didn't know her very well. My grandparents raised me and I only saw my mother and stepfather on the weekends when they came to visit. I have 4 half-sisters and 2 half-brothers from my natural parents and their other spouses. Which only one sister stays in contact.

My Step Grandfather in lower left

William Walter Ayers
Born in Meadows of Dan, Virginia, 1895.
Passed away Oct.12, 1960.

I had to include Grandpop. Everytime I think about him I realize how very lucky I was. Grandpop was a neat person. Kind and thoughtful had tons and was a friend to everyone he met. He paid for the tuition for me to attend private school, music lessons and have my teeth straightened. He always had time to ask me how I was and really mean it. He taught me to save my pennies, to respect all creatures and love the country life. One time he found three or four baby squirrels that had fallen from their nest. He hand raised them and every night they slept in his old jacket pockets hanging on the foot post of his bed. When they were old enough to have full range of the house my grandmother complained ,as they loved to sit on her head and anyone else that happened to come by. So he took them out to his sisters and set them a feed place high in a tree. After a bit of time they didn't come to this place anymore ,but he still checked on them every time we went to his sister's farm. Like him ,I've hand raised two baby squirrels. It must be a family event.

My grandmother had made this pretty dress for me. It was scratchy and my mother had used one of those old curling irons you heat on the stove top. Well it burnt my hair and stunk really bad.
